| Discussion
of Problem Area: |
| Islandwalk
is a middle to upper middle class community in Florida with only
one main access to the community decorated by 4 small lakes. Main
access to Islandwalk has been plagued with unsightly Algae blooms
and repeated resident complaints within the 4 lakes. |
| |
| Solution
for Treatment and Change: |
| NRP
Commenced treatment of the 4 lakes on 5/11/01 by applying an initial
shock treatment of 4ppm of the total water mass equaling 10 gallons
of Bio-Activator diluted with water to 110 gallons. Treatment
#2 was administered 3 days after on 5/14/01 applying 5gallons
of Bio-Activator diluted with water to 55 gallons. Treatment #3
was applied 7 days later on 5/21/01 using 2.5 gallons of Bio-Activator
diluted with water 20 to 1 to 55 gallons. Subsequent treatments
were maintenance treatments administered with 1 gallon of Bio-Activator
diluted with water to 50 gallons every 10 days. |
| |
| Prior
to start of treatment water clarity was measured at all 4 lakes
at between 8 inches and 12 inches. A pungent odor was present
at and around 2 of the 4 lakes. All 4 lakes were observed to have
up to 50% coverage of algae and algae blooms. |
| |
| Water
clarity was measured at between 4 ft and 4.5 ft. at all 4 lakes
prior to commencement of second treatment 3 days after initial
treatment. Algae coverage was practically non-existent. Only one
of the 4 lakes had a visible dead patch of algae aprox.3 yds.
Square. No odors were present in or around any of the 4 lakes. |
| |
| Prior
to third treatment 10 days after initial treatment water clarity
was measured at between 6 ft and 7.5 ft. at all 4 lakes. No odors
were present no algae was observed. |
| |
| All
subsequent clarity measurements were at a minimum of 7 ft, the
bottom of the lakes could be clearly seen at all times. No algae
blooms were present or returned to the lakes. Even though uncharacteristically
high daytime temperatures were recorded. |
